Attorneys from Ray, Robinson, Carle & Davies P.L.L. settled a wrongful death lawsuit for their clients, the widow and adult daughters of a man who fell overboard while a passenger on a pleasure boat on Lake Erie. The evidence developed during discovery showed that the owner/operator of the boat failed to take proper precautions for the passenger's safety and failed to perform a proper search and rescue for the decedent.

  • Ray, Robinson, Carle & Davies P.L.L. was appointed as national maritime counsel for a large shipowner and assists its national coordinator/counsel in managing the mass tort litigation it is involved in across the nation.

  • Ray, Robinson, Carle & Davies P.L.L. obtained a significant six-figure settlement for a client who was injured by a negligent forklift operator. The injury occurred in Tennessee, and the case was referred to the Firm after the expiration of the Tennessee statute of limitations period. Ray, Robinson, Carle & Davies P.L.L. was successful in establishing an Ohio connection, which in turn supported jurisdiction in Ohio and the application of Ohio's longer limitations period.

  • Attorneys from Ray, Robinson, Carle & Davies P.L.L. were involved in the sale and transfer of two Great Lakes cargo ships, representing the seller in one transaction & the buyer in another.

  • Attorneys from Ray, Robinson, Carle & Davies P.L.L., utilizing Ohio's Lemon Law, successfully attained the repurchase of several late-model vehicles for their clients.

  • Attorneys from Ray, Robinson, Carle & Davies P.L.L. won summary judgment on liability for a shipowner defendant where the plaintiff allegedly sustained neck injuries when another vessel crew member unexpectedly attempted to adjust his back and neck from behind. (The case is on appeal.)

  • Among its activities and involvement in various charitable organizations, Ray, Robinson, Carle & Davies P.L.L. is active in our local bar associations, and counts among its partners a bar association trustee and an active participant in the joint rating of judicial candidates. We are proud of our participation in the donation of our legal services for the probate of an estate where the proceeds in their entirety were donated to Hospice of the Western Reserve.

  • Ray, Robinson, Carle & Davies P.L.L. is a participant in the Cuyahoga County Bar Association Lawyers Referral & Information Service, a program whereby litigants are referred to qualified attorneys in particular practice areas.

  • Ray, Robinson, Carle & Davies P.L.L. has obtained numerous court opinions finding that Ohio Courts lack personal jurisdiction over various cruise lines and enforcing forum selection clauses to move lawsuits to other states.

  • Ray, Robinson, Carle & Davies P.L.L. obtained a settlement for a person injured in an auto accident while in this state on business. It required coordination of witnesses from jurisdictions outside Ohio and use of state law other than Ohio.

  • Attorneys from Ray, Robinson, Carle & Davies P.L.L. won summary judgment absolving their client who allegedly failed to properly load and stow steel coils in rail cars, leading to a derailment and causing damage to cargo, rail cars and railroad property.

Personnel Update

Ray, Robinson, Carle & Davies P.L.L. welcomes Travis W. Jeric as a first-year associate. Travis is a graduate of Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and served as Co-Editor in Chief of The Journal of Law and Health.

William D. Carle III (Of Counsel) was the subject of an article in the GREAT LAKES SEAWAY REVIEW, July-September 2005 (Vol. 34, No. 1) by Dave Wobser, entitled Great Lakes People - William D. Carle III, Lakes' lawyer, historian, boatnerd and sailor.
